Sister Adele O’Sullivan, CSJ, M.D.
Sister Adele O’Sullivan, CSJ, M.D. has been a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet since 1968. Her calling led her to pursue a medical career and in 1984 she received a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Arizona. Dr. O’Sullivan completed her internship and residency in Family Medicine at the U of A in 1987 and is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. In 2006, Dr. O’Sullivan was honored as the American Family Physician of the Year by the American Academy of Family Physicians. She received the Arizona award as Family Physician of the Year from the Arizona Academy of Family Physicians in 2005.
After practicing in a variety of ambulatory and inpatient health care settings throughout Arizona, Sister Adele’s ministry since 1996 has been as a physician provider for the Health Care for the Homeless (HCH) Program in Phoenix, AZ. She has served as Medical Director of the Program since 2000.
Sister Adele was recently recognized for her ministry to persons experiencing homelessness by The Caring Institute, a nonprofit organization founded in 1985 to promote the values of caring, integrity and public service. Sister Adele was a recipient of the Caring Award in April 2008 at the National Caring Awards Ceremony in Washington, D.C.
